Wash Day Hair Wall | The Benefits

My “Hair Wall” is the hair that comes out during my wash day routine. This can be shedded hair or breakage but you will never know until you take a closer look at it! This process just took me a further step into my hair journey because by doing this it helps me take a closer look at my hair and what its doing. The benefits of having a hair wall are:

pic3.jpg

  • Is there any breakage during wash day??

If you have a lot of short hairs coming out during wash day this is not a good sign. This means that your strands aren’t strong enough to endure a wash day and you need to get your strands stronger and healthier. This can mean a protein treatment or this may mean the products your using are too harsh. You can use your shedded long strands to run test on to see what your hair needs.

  • Whats my hair porosity??

The porosity of your hair is important and vital to know especially during wash days. Take your shedded hairs and do a porosity test on them. This will also aide you in knowing what products would work best and how much of it is needed.

  • Whats the health of my strands??

When looking at your hair wall you will be able to see the density/thickness of your strands. If your short strands are thin and your shedded strands are thicker that may mean that your short strands were split ends. If the shedded strand starts out thick and then gets thin that mean you have some dead ends that need to be trimmed.

Remember hair shedding is normal, the average person looses between 50-100 strands of hair a day. I hope you all enjoyed learning the benefits of my hair wall and hopefully you all show me what your hair wall is looking like! post it on social media and tag me!

5 Tips For a Super Affordable Snow Trip!

Going to Denver in March was the best decision I could have ever made! The weather was amazing ( with the exception of a little rain) and our snow day was even more awesome. I went up at the end of March and surprisingly the 45 degree weather felt more like 70 degree weather in Florida. Some people says it’s because of the high elevation making us higher to the sun but nether the less the weather was amazing for a stroll in downtown to sight see.

IMG_5239

I would recommend staying in/near the city and traveling to a ski resort because there is so much more to see in the city and besides once your done with all the snow mountain activities there’s nothing left to do! A Ski trip can get very pricy but I am here to save the day and tell you some tricks and tips on saving money while enjoying your trip.

Flight:

Plane tickets can get very expensive especially when your flying directly into winter park, aspen, and a lot of other ski country resorts. Denver seemed to be the happy medium for Colorado flights because it a great city and the tickets weren’t that expensive. When initially looking online the flights were around $180 US dollars. Many people don’t know this GEM but when you go to the airport to purchase your tickets you don’t have to pay the online fees. Our tickets turned out to be $120 at the airport but after the Denver taxes were added it came up to $150. Such great savings right??

Airbnb:

Looking to get the most bang for your buck and do so in style? Airbnb is a great way to do so and also get a great price! Reading the reviews will give you a great idea if the spot is what your looking for. It will also make you aware of what to expect upon arrival. Make sure your able to communicate with the owner of the home before hand if you have any questions before booking.

GoodWill:

Denver is loaded with many great thrift stores thats just so happen to have all the ski gear you’ll need! In the store snow goggles run for about $200 but in the thrift store you can grab a nice pair for $8, there was also snow shoes for around $14. So if needed wait till you get to Denver, stop at a thrift shop and shop till you drop! This is also great if you have a big family on a snow cation and you need as much savings as you can get!!

Turo:

Turo is just like Airbnb but for cars! Yes renting peoples cars. When I first heard of this service I was super shocked! But then again people are coming up with all kinds of businesses these days! This service was great as well, the car we rented was around $20 dollars a day. With the under 25 fees and insurance fees it came up to $40 a day and we kept the care for 2 days with a grand total of $80. $80 beats a one way Uber ride to Winter Park from Denver! AGAIN guys saving, saving, saving!

Snow Day at Winter Park Resort:

We were under the impression that our snow day would be super expensive and we would only have enough money to drive there throw a snow ball or two and leave! But we were gladly mistaken, Tubing was around $20 which included a hour of endless tubing down the slippery ice slope! The lift ride over was completely free with amazing views and smooth ride. Skiing for beginners was $41 which included all your equipment on a slope that you won’t kill your self if you’ve never skied before!

So if you like me and your going on a snow trip for your first time I KNOW this will help you! Make sure to share with others don’t be stingy!! Have fun and be safe! Until next time

The Journey | Ep. 3

Who would of knew that the Journey would get so much BUZZ! I can see that so many people are loving these episodes (and hating lol) and I will keep them coming! It’s funny because I started the journey for my subscriber to see more relaxed women but I find myself learning so much from interacting with these beauties.

It’s so rewarding learning from other women about hair care in general because the truth is, one person doesn’t know it all! Two minds are better than one!

The purpose of the Journey is to show how confidence exudes out of women of color. How working towards a healthy hair goal can be a journey we all take together. In this new day and age we can put away the straight hair stereotypes and the “true meaning” of relaxers because there is a new definition. WE DEFINE the style of our hair and own it with truth.

So to confidence, truth, and Black Girl MAGIC

Why My Relaxed Hair Can’t Be Afrocentric?

Last year around this time I was so inspired to do the #WhyILoveMyRelaxedHair tag and I thought to myself how could I take it up a notch? This idea came to me in many different ways, I wanted to get an African Print outfit so bad but I didn’t understand why! Then I came across @twodollarsricher on Instagram and she had her hair in this beautiful braided style and I thought to myself that I had to have that style with my outfit. Then It all came together when @Healthyhairjunkie tagged me in a post that asked the question:

“Black women with relaxed hair can’t be Afrocentric.” How closely are the two linked? Do you think our hair makes a statement before we do, or is it just hair?

A light bulb went off in my head and I thought that’s it! Im being featured in @itsmyhairmag magazine and I wrote about relaxed hair having no correlation to me wanting to be another race or not loving myself. So this question just made everything come together and make sense for my visual project.

Being Afrocentric starts within and can be expressed from the outside. The purpose of this visual project is to show my confidence and dress in African print attire and wear braids in my relaxed hair to show no matter how I look on the outside or how I do my hair I love being black! Black is magic and I absolutely adore it because thats who I am!

People get so carried away with their thoughts and perception of women who have relaxed hair. So my answer to her question is, being afrocentric and having relaxed hair have no linkage. Yes our hair makes a statement, just as our fashion, nails, or taste in decor. But no matter what I do my hair will always have texture and there is no flatiron or hot comb that can change that.

And guess what? I’m 100% okay with that, I LOVE that. So just like you think your “being” Afrocentric with your natural hair, I’m being Afrocentric with my beautifully textured straight hair because no other race can have yaky straight hair like me!

Thanks for following me on my relaxed hair journey and don’t forget to follow @itsmyhairmag to get your issue of volume 2 to read my article because it’s GOOD!

Voluminous Wand Curls

I ALWAYS try to create voluminous styles with relaxed hair because people seem to think its impossible! Not only can we achieve sleek straight looks but we can also get the big puffy voluminous look.

I am 2  months post relaxer so this was the best time to create these beautiful wand curls. After a good blow dry, my hair was set and ready to be wanded. After using the hot tool on 380 degrees it came out a little something like this:

Screen Shot 2016-09-30 at 10.06.14 PM.png

I could have left it like this but the look I was going for, I wanted BIG! So I fluff and separated the curls to get the most perfect look with so much volume. My roots aided in the bigness because boy am I due for a relaxer!

My Relaxed Hair Won’t Grow, Help!

“Girl I’m trying to get my hair long like your but it keeps coming out! What do i need to do? “

I get so many direct messages on Instagram and Facebook from women who are having trouble with their relaxed hair. Before they do the big chop they want to give their relaxed hair a second chance at life! I don’t know the circumstance or condition everyone’s hair is in, but I do know a couple of question you ladies can ask yourself when getting your hair to grow.

  • What type of relaxer am I using?
  • Do I implement protein treatments into my regimen?
  • Do I deep condition?
  • Do I care for my hair while in protective styles?

These are just some of the questions I ask when there is no length retention. I explain these steps and more in a detail video on my channel! Check it out!

“The front half of my head is thriving and getting longer while the back of my hair continues to break, what would you recommend?”

The Best Relaxed Hair Perm Rod Set

screen-shot-2016-09-09-at-6-41-15-pmscreen-shot-2016-09-09-at-6-42-32-pm

With the many perm rod set tutorials on YouTube I never came across one that was demonstrated on relaxed hair with a BIG voluminous end result. I wondered why I couldn’t find what I was looking for and that made me want to come up with something myself, so I did.

All relaxed hair is different but what I do know is that shrinkage for natural ladies is on their side when it comes to styles holding and even looking great after a few days. With relaxed hair we have to think of what makes our hair flourish in a style and what will make it hold without being too hard and still have movement.

So with that being said I came up with the BEST way to achieve this style for relaxed, texlaxed, and natural haired ladies. The products that were used are:

-Heat Protectant: Silk Elements Mega Silk Heat protectant spray
-Bronner Brothers oil moisturizer
-Oil sheen
-Bronner Brothers Wrapping lotion foam (Alcohol free)
-Bronner Brothers Anti-Frizz Serum

The tutorial is broken down into two parts, Click the links below and watch away! I hope this helps and cheers to Happy Hair Stylin!

Unleash The “Beast”

Nope, the beast isn’t my wild blown out hair blowing in the wind. It’s actually something that has held me back from leaping and taking risk in the past. It’s caused me to be left confused thinking what will my life be? How could I have a promising career if I don’t know what exactly makes me happy?

The mind is a powerful tool, so one night I let my mind take me deep into my thoughts. It’s amazing what it had pulled out because these were all things that I was familiar with. But this time they all aligned themselves and made sense for the first time. It’s like my heart had it all but my mind had finally put things into perspective.

So yes, I know what it feels like to want so many things in life but feel like its impossible. Maybe your parents don’t approve, maybe others don’t understand your vision, and it may even be blurry to you at first. But just know if you even spark a interest in something go for it. Don’t let you insecurities get the best of you because I promise it all will make sense in the end.

The day I chose to do what my heart desired was when my ” beast” was unleashed. Although the road to understanding it all was very blurry I kept my goals in mind and kept pressing forward. and because of my ambition things are starting to become transparent.

Follow Your Dreams

Since high-school I’ve been in flirtation with the idea of becoming a reporter of some sort. Feeling the butterflies in my stomach before doing the morning show and feeling accomplished when it was all over gave me an amazing feeling. This was what I was created to do, this is what I love.

I fought myself for sometime about perusing my dream because this dream was way bigger than me. I was suppose to be a physical therapist and have a sound idea of where I was headed after college. Then one day when my life seemed like a foggy road I met my amazing teacher who was a former anchor for Fox News. She told me

“Brianna if this is what you want to do then do it, with your whole heart. You have to give it your all to reach your full potential. So, if this is what you want to do ill help you start your journey.”

From that day forward I never looked back. It only took her believing in me and her encouraging words for me to believe in myself. Once the people around me seen my confidence they were also confident in me.

There is no one way to follow your dreams but this is what I’ve taken away from my life to share with you:

  1. Believe in yourself so others will believe in you
  2. Have an amazing amount of confidence
  3. Encourage others and shed your light in their life
  4. ALWAYS be positive
  5. Don’t be afraid to do what makes you happy, Go for it! JUMP
  6. Make BOSS Moves.
